Movie Popcorn Trick

October 17, 2013

Your movie popcorn will never be the same after this simple life hack
If you can stand the texting, the candy chomping and the marauding bands of teenagers, there’s nothing like seeing a movie on the big screen. However, there’s always something amiss by the time you finish that top layer of popcorn that you buttered yourself. Invariably, the butter (or, let’s be honest, butter-flavored substance) is drizzled over the top and fails to evenly disperse throughout the bag. Until now. The food blog Foodbeast posted this simple hack to achieve perfect butter distribution. Attach a straw to the butter dispenser nozzle, force it down into the bag and presto! The bottom three-quarters of the bag now has that buttery goodness and you’re all set to enjoy a film that gets bland and tiresome after 15 minutes.

Soldier thought to be unconscious salutes upon getting Purple Heart

October 16, 2013

There wasn’t a dry eye in the hospital room during last week’s Purple Heart ceremony for Army Ranger Josh Hargis. Hooked to a breathing tube in a military hospital in Afghanistan, Hargis had lost both his legs in battle, and doctors thought he hadn’t yet regained consciousness when the ceremony began at his bedside. However, Hargis lifted his bandaged hand, with a little help from an attending doctor, in order to salute a commanding officer who had presented him with the medal. “I cannot impart on you the level of emotion that poured through the intensive care unit that day,” the commander wrote in a letter to Hargis’ wife, according to Fox News. “Grown men began to weep, and we were speechless at a gesture that speaks volumes about Josh’s courage and character.”

Fresh or Frozen?

October 10, 2013

Image

It might surprise you whether fresh or frozen veggies are healthier
Common sense tells us that a supermarket produce section would contain far more vitamins and nutrients than the frozen food aisle. However, research from two independent studies have determined that frozen fruits and vegetables can often be more healthy and nutritious than the “fresh-picked” alternative. The reasoning is that the produce section doesn’t necessarily contain “fresh” food but rather stock that had been held in storage for a month and will then sit in a fridge, losing its nutrients along the way. By comparison, frozen fruits and veggies are chilled soon after harvest and retain richer amounts of antioxidants like Vitamin C, polyphenols, anthocyanins, lutein and beta-carotene.
